Square Pizza

Supplies are limited, as we'll only be in Troy for a few days, so we're having the same dinner tonight as we did last. Carefully, the pizza was portioned like so; the blobs, of course, being mushrooms.

But! This time, the crust dared to unfold whilst protected from our watchful eye by the cover of the oven, leaving a barren ring of no-sauce-no-cheese around the thing.

Beat that mushroom pizza below by miles, though...

Mush and Mice

It has recently been discovered that our beautiful Troy apartment is overcome with mice. Our assumption that there was only one of them was quickly discarded when we kindly caught it and let it out in the streets, only to see our food supply continue to diminish. I believe the catch-count is now five -- dearest Saads and Deager have been unfairly inconvenienced with the assembly and maintenance of various humane (and not so) traps. Hazel the Cat simply looks on with an expression of disdain.

The upside of this infestation is that the apartment is now spotless. We spent hours last night disinfecting surfaces, hiding food, throwing away trash, and generally gallivanting about. These potatoes, for instance, are an example of what would otherwise have remained unearthed for months (although clearly it had already been at least that long). They were in an unused drawer, and had mutated into a self-sustaining, mold-ridden forest; an ecosystem in a burlap bag.

...they are gone now, of course.

Flavour Cafe, Troy NY

We walked around outside today for too long, taking pictures of a beautiful girl's boarding school in Troy (Emma Willard), and our hands were numb and freezing. The only solution, of course, was hot hot coffee, which we found at Flavour Cafe & Lounge downtown. Bean got almond biscotti, which was pretty, and we sat and watched the people around us studiously working.

Took a lil' nap and then back to work...

Mocha Blend

Here in Troy, there is a little cafe called Mocha Blend. Sometimes, upon waking, Bean and I can hear it calling to us faintly, from where it waits squeezed in between the Pricechopper and Insurance Agency. An unlikely place for a quaint little warm-colored breakfast, but it is always a delicious one. Although their breakfast selections are limited (they are far better equipped for lunch), the egg-and-cheese on a croissant is the tastiest thing on this earth. It is perfectly cooked every time, flaky and crisp and tender all at once and in all the right places.

Also, their coffees are gigantic, which will make me love any place. Even the crumbs look good...
